President Donald Trump is reportedly planning a series of federal bureaucracy changes that would heavily effect the Department of Health And Human Services, according to a Wednesday Politico report.
The administration allegedly plans on releasing a report that suggests moving the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, into the HHS from the Department of Agriculture, according to Politico.
The potential plan also includes renaming HHS and cutting the United States Agency for International Development and State Department budgets.
If proposed, many of the steps of the reorganization plan, including moving SNAP and renaming HHS, would require congressional approval to be implemented.
“The administration already put a lot of stuff out in this year’s budget related to cuts, but that was the easy stuff,” an administration official said to Politico. “This [report] is the harder stuff.”
The reorganization plan would come in response to a March executive order “intended to improve the efficiency, effectiveness, and accountability of the executive branch.”
