Bret Weinstein is a biology professor, who teaches mostly evolutionary biology at Evergreen. There has never been a problem with him from the university, or anyone else since he’s worked at the school.
The man has been respected around the school, and on websites like ratemyprofessor, there are no negative things about him. He challenged views, and was passionate about his own, and respective about other people’s views. He even supported Bernie Sanders in the election, so this man has proven himself as the typical tolerant liberal.
Somehow in the past couple weeks even with a track record of being a good professor and a tolerant man, he is now looked down by his colleague’s and the students at the school as a racist white supremacist. Not only that the students have taken the school over, and have taken the school hostage until they have met their demands.
This all began when the school’s black community was supposed to hold a “day of absence”, where they left campus for the day to help bring awareness to the issues they deal with. When this year came around, the black community demanded to change it around, and instead force all white people off campus for that day.
This is when Bret Weinstein spoke up and said this was wrong through an email.
This is when all hell broke loose.
4,000 student activists protested, and screamed at Weinstein in videos that were publicly passed around by the media. The campus was then shut-down that last Thursday, and Friday after man called the local police office threatening to shoot the protesters at the school.
Evergreens president even had his office bombarded with threats by the protesters if they didn’t give in to some of their demands, last week. Yelling and screaming him down.
The faculty released a letter signed by 71 professors to make promises to meet the growing list of students demands, and blamed Weinstein for “endangering” students.
“Demonstrate accountability by pursuing a disciplinary investigation against Bret Weinstein according to guidelines in the Social Contract and Faculty Handbook…“Weinstein has endangered faculty, staff, and students, making them targets of white supremacist backlash by promulgating misinformation in public emails, on national television, in news outlets, and on social media.”
The faculty even accused Weinstein of being “alt-right”, and a “white-Supremacist”, “counter the alt-right narratives that are demonizing Evergreen and Day of Absence specifically” and “[hold] each other accountable when we act in racist ways.”
Yes, Bret Weinstein the liberal Bernie supporter is now considered an alt-right white supremacist by his faculty, just because he doesn’t believe that the black community has the right to tell white students to not show up on campus.
This story doesn’t make any sense, to moderate left, and right people. Weinstein appeared on the Joe Rogan Podcast where they spent two hours trying to make sense about how he’s been turned into a racist within a week. He also made an appearance on the Rubin Report where they dissected the situation and tried to understand the situation.
The professor made an appearance on Tucker Carlson, and that was used against him, by the student activists.
While the reasons for the student activists motive behind it are confusing, the story is developing.
No one knows the real reasons behind this attack on him, and any real signs of racism, from Prof. Weinstein. Yet, this is the reality he now faces.
